Obama Plan
Congressman Barney Frank, the chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, sent a letter last week to the to chief executive officers of Bank of America, Citigroup, J.P. Morgan Chase and Wells Fargo, the four biggest US banks urging them in “the strongest possible terms to take immediate steps to write down these second mortgages.”
In Nevada, California, Michigan, Florida and Arizona; average home prices have dropped more than 20%. The money will be shared based on a formula that factors in the number of unemployed residents and the net drop in home prices.
“The worst of the storm has passed, but the devastation remains. One in 10 Americans still cannot find work. Many businesses have shuttered. Home values have declined.”
